Daily Squeeze 10/5/12: JP Haynie

Hello Squeezelets, how has your day been? Today the Daily Squeeze comes from local Utah act JP Haynie. I found JP while searching through bandcamp for new music and stumbled upon his fantastic 2012 LP "The Sand". Only after hearing the album did I discover that he was a local, and I decided to purchase this LP on vinyl. Whether or not you order the LP doesn't really matter, what matters is that this has to be one of my favorite albums of the year and when you guys listen to it you will think the same. JP uses an incredible folk sound along with beautiful lyrics (mostly lyrics that are very influenced by the beautiful landscape of Utah) to win over not only your ears but your heart. Please go and give this LP a listen or two, it is very worth the listen and if you like it enough you can buy it digitally for 7 bucks and if you really love it (like I did) you can buy the multicolor vinyl pressing with a beautiful 24 pg. lyric book.

Tattoo - Peace DAILY SQUEEZE

Hi fellow squeegees.
Sorry for the long time no see. Trust me, you will be seeing a lot more posts with "-Carl" at the bottom from now on. I have been busy transitioning to a new school as well as brainstorming new ideas for the blog. On top of that, Evan and I have been working on a "project." That's all I can disclose for now, as it is still in the works. You'll  be hearing more about that in the coming weeks ahead. Now to the post.

Today's Daily Squeeze is more of a micro-review of the new track by the "post-punk" garage rock ensemble   Peace. Their new track "Tattoo" is an insight into the almost (or maybe already?) completed LP entitled The World is Too Much With Us planned to drop quite soon. The track itself is a jambalaya of heavily reverbed vocals piled high amongst complex, yet very catchy guitar riffs that almost have a middle eastern feel. I love the overall groove of the track and see Peace becoming innovators in their genre with their future LP. Check them out with this link to the MP3. http://suicidesqueeze.net/stream/peace/Peace_Tattoo.mp3

Have a wonderful day and see you tomorrow!!

The Biggest Surprise/ News in New Music This Year. GY!BE Has A New Album!!!!!!!!

Hello squeezlets, earlier tonight I along with the rest of the world has discovered that the legendary post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor is releasing a new album. This new album is entitled Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!. This of course is the bands first LP since 2002 with Yanqui U.X.O.
The band is selling copies of the new LP as of tonight in Boston. Since like me, most of the world's GY!BE fans don't live in places they tour, the LP will be officially released by Constellation Records on October 15th for the fans in Europe and the 16th for the rest of the fans the world over. In the meantime you can either go over to Constellation Records and pre-order the new long over due LP or you can wait for the 15th/ 16th to come along (based on where you live) and pray that a leak comes soon.

Peaces, Stay Golden, (and never more importantly than in this moment now) Godspeed to you all,

Long Time No See

Dear Squeegees,

If you've been wondering where I've been, that's good. During the summers, I live in a remote part of NY State in which there is very limited internet access. When I can get internet at all, it is so slow that streaming or downloading music is virtually impossible. That is the sole reason I have put out no content this summer. I am looking forward to posting weekly album reviews once I get back to Utah in about a week. I sincerely apologize for letting the blog die a little, but its rebirth is on its way. Thanks for your understanding.

R.I.P Adam Yauch

I'm sorry that this is late but I've ben swamped. As you all surely know by now on May 4 of this year Adam Yauch, more famously known as MCA, died in the city of New York at the age of 47 after a near three year battle with cancer. I would like to send out my condolences to Adam Yauch's family, friends, and band mates. Adam was a legend that truly changed the world for the better, as one of the co-founders of the legendary Beastie Boys he helped change the music world forever. Adam also was the creator of many charities around the world. So I would like to take this moment to say thank you to Adam Yauch for everything you did for music and for this planet. You will be greatly missed and will be forever in our hearts.

The Odd Future Tape Vol. 2 Review

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (also known as Odd Future or OF) is a rap group based out of LA. Established in 2007 by producer/rapper Tyler, The Creator, the group consists of rappers Mike G, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis and Hodgy Beats as well as producers Left Brain, Syd tha Kyd, and Matt Martians and singer Frankie Ocean. Other members include Jasper The Motherfucking Dolphin (Jasper Dolphin), L-boy, and Taco. The Odd Future Tape Vol. 2 is their fourth release under the label Odd Future Records.

For this album, I felt that they should have spent more time on each individual track writing more lyrical rhymes and producing higher quality beats like in Oldie, and less time trying to make a super long (18 track, 1h3m) album. OF also seemed to have a hard time finding a unique style and sticking with it. Styles ranged from R&B (Analog 2) to hardcore underground (crunk?) shit (50). The majority of the tracks seemed underproduced and cluttered, much different than the dope style of past tracks like Yonkers. Two key tracks were Oldie and White. Oldie had a fresh and beautifly simple beat as well as very solid raps from Earl and Tyler and a clever verse from Jasper Dolphin. White featured crisp vocals and thoughtful lyrics from Frank Ocean over top of an elegant chord progression played on a Fender Rhodes.

Overall, I listened to this album with hopes of hearing dope beats and witty lyrics. I guess I overestimated OF a little because I was disappointed with the lack of effort on many levels throughout the album.

Daily Squeeze: 4/1/12

Hello people of the internet, today's squeeze is the band Coyote Fever, which are friends of ours over at the random squeeze. Over the past few weeks I had the great joy of seeing them live. What I can tell you about them is that they are a group that if I had to explain it (which I am now) sounds like Explosions in the Sky with lyrics, shorter songs and a much more prominent indie rock bass line. Like I said they're friends of ours and they are definitely going to make it, check them out as soon as possible, go on to their facebook, listen and download their demo.

Kiran Leonard- Bowler Hat Soup Album Review

To start off this album was my first introduction to Kiran Leonard. I had heard the name but had never listened to the music until a few weeks ago while searching on bandcamp for new music I stumbled upon an album that had cover art that I just couldn't ignore. Then I started to listen and started to fall in love with Kiran Leonard's style. This album utilizes an indie rock sound that is just plain old fun to listen to. To start out with the pros of this album I would like to say I love the voice of Kiran Leonard, his voice fits the instrumentals he is given on every track. Another thing that I enjoyed on this album was the use of Kiran's influences in music. For example on the the tracks Port- Ainé he uses the same keyboard sounds that Daniel Johnston used on many of his more famous tracks. In fact when listening to Port- Ainé I had to quickly check my screen to make sure that I wasn't listening to Big Business Monkey. But moving on I like his use of these influences but also maybe he could try to maybe break away from such obvious influences. Going back to the rest of the album another thing I like Is the catchiness of this album. It seems that every now and then I find myself humming or singing he tracks. Overall I'm really liking this album, but haven't really found myself loving it. It is a catchy and fun album to listen to, but albums like that tend to fade away for me after awhile. 7.5/10

Jack White

K, I apologize for not posting in forever. But here I am. So I'm here to talk about Jack White. This guy is one of the few guys remaining who can save Rock n' Roll. Jack White has been in multiple bands. His most famous is the White Stripes, one of my personal most favorite bands. Jack White is coming out with a new album soon, Blunderbuss. New favorite word. It should be coming out in April. Now my fellow squeezer Evan has already posted the video to the single, Love Interruption, so I can't use that. So I will give you one of my favorite songs from his band The Dead Weather, the song, Treat Me Like Your Mother.

Daily Squeeze 2/21/12

 Hey Everyone!

Sorry for not Squeezing for a while. Between cello gigs and studying for finals, I haven't really had time to post.
Today's Daily Squeeze is a sweet track by a hip-hop group called Knowmads. They are a two man group out of Seattle, WA who produced a fresh album by the name of Seattle a while ago. Here's my personal favorite off of the album (because of its clean sound and DOPE sample.)

Metallica

Hey guys, so I just gotta apologize. I have been drowning in homework, rehearsal, and practicing instruments, so that's why I haven't been here for a long while. But here I am. Oh and btw, I probably won't post much in the next two weeks cuz i have to study for some huge tests, but then i'm back to my everyday deal. Ok so here's the deal, I realize i've been giving you a crap load of information, and when I read crap loads of information, I feel like I could learn the same thing by just going onto wikipedia, so that's all gunna change. If it's a new band, I'll tell you the names and stuff like that, but otherwise I'm gunna tell you why I like these bands. So this is Metallica. Not exactly what I usually listen to, but they are in my top three favorite bands of all time easy. Metallica consists of James Hetfield as Singer, Kirk Hammett as lead guitarist, Robert Trujillo on bass, and finally Lars Ulrich on drums. I like these guys because they are straight up musicians. They are all so good at what they do, and in my opinion, Kirk Hammett is one of, if not the greatest, metal guitarists who ever picked up the ax. So I'm telling you to go on youtube, and look up Blackened, by Metallica. I would post the link but for some reason, the monkeys in my computer won't let me. So yeah. -River

I'm kinda in a mellow mood so today I'm gonna throw an acoustic artist at you. I love this guy's minimalist style. Here's Ghanian-Canadian artist Kae Sun. Pay attention to the tracks Lion on a Leash, Firefly Dance, Burden of Love, and Weh-Weh. I might end up reviewing this album in the future.

Deadmau5 at Play Vol. 1 REVIEW

Yo, this is Carl the Chronical of Monocle here to hit wit a track by track review of Vol. 1 of Deadmau5 at Play.

Track 1 (Vanishing Point) - This track is very typical of Mau5's style, good build at the beginning, and a solid production overall. The bass is heavily synthesized with good KORG style melodies over the top. Overall 6.5/10

Track 2 (Sex Lies Audiotape) - SEX. LIES. AUDIOTAPE. Ugh. The hook is ridiculous in a bad way, the song is repetitive even for techno, and it never really moves (no drops, filters etc.) 3/10

Track 3 (Cocktail Queen) - This song is an atrocious mix of one-note bass, a whiny hook from Melleefresh that makes my brain quiver with horror, and kids club rave quality. If you're going to listen to this song, start listening at 3:30 and pop a pill for good measure. 3.5/10

Track 4 (Faxing Berlin) - The drum kit he uses is uniquely influenced with lots of cowbell. This reminds me of the Deadmau5 we all know and love (Some Chords anyone?). Give this one a listen. 8.5/10

Track 5 (Hey Baby - Adam K Dirty Remix) - Shoot me now. 0.5/10

Track 6 (Turning Point) - This is a collection of obscure techno sounds gathered together into one big melting pot named Turning Point. 3/10

Track 7 (This is the Hook) - Oh no...  NOT ANOTHER ONE.... :'(    2.5/10

Track 8 (1981) - Funky. That is all.  7/10

Track 9 (Dr. Funkenstein) - Besides the fact that it sounds like the computer is saying Dr. Fuckinstein, not bad. 6/10

Track 10 (Afterhours) - What a lame ending. 4/10

Overall not a huge fan of the album, averages in at 4.5/10

Daily Squeeze 1/31/12

Shoop Da wooop!

I've realized that I've done a lot of rap/beat/instrumental Daily Squeeze's lately so I'm going to change it up a little. Today's Daily Squeeze is still an instrumental but I think it appeals to just about everyone. If the name of the song doesn't make you want to listen I don't know what will. Just make sure you listen until at least 1:00 in the video. This is Easy Muffin by Amon Tobin

Jack White Solo Debut Announcement!!!!!!!!!!

Well everybody, news that I am sure you have all heard came out today announcing Jack White's debut solo album entitled "Blunderbuss". I personally think that Jack White is one of the best performers of our generation and this album has shot straight to the top of my most anticipated list. I am now currently counting the days until April 23. Until then, at least for know, we have the first single off this new album titled "Love Interruption". I'm digging the track, but honestly I'am also kind of a fanboy. Tell me in the comments what you guys think of the track.

I hope the rest of you have a wonderful evening knowing that Jack White is coming out with a solo debut.

Hey peoplez!

Here to do yet another Daily Squeeze on a phenom producer. Today's producer is DJ Signify. He has very high production value and makes some sick, complex, very original beats that are reminiscent of old-skool 1990's rap beats. Canned Heat

Bonjour.

So I have been told by my fellow Squeezers that I need to squeeze on more underground bands. So today's Random Squeeze is about Canned Heat. Many people know about Canned Heat, but they're much more underground then let's say Led Zeppelin. So instead of telling you all about them, and what they're songs are and blah, I'm going to start telling you why I like them. Canned Heat brings the blues into rock. I am a fan of the blues, so if you're like me, you'll like these guys. You can hear a lot of 1920's blues in their music. So yeah that's why I like them. Oh, and by the way, don't blame them for their hair and beards and crap. Cuz you know, they're from the 60's. This is Shake and Boogie.

Daily Squeeze: 1/29/12

Hello everybody, today the daily squeeze isn't an underground band and is really more just the best video of the day. The video includes a past feature on The Random Squeeze and one that hasn't been spotlighted but you all know who he is. I found this video yesterday late so I didn't get the chance to post it, but this video defines the word that both of theses artists love to use... SWAG. So without further ado, I give you BADBADNOTGOOD x Tyler, The Creator and their jam session video of the OFWGKTA song Orange Juice.

AC/DC

Merry Saturday,

AC/DC baby. I love them. So I've decided that the whole massive paragraph thing that I've been doing is something most people just skip and go straight to the link. But just in case, I'll give you the basic info. Malcolm, Angus, and George Young were brothers born in Glasgow, Scotland, and moved to Sydney with most of their family in 1963. George was the first to learn to play the guitar. He became a member of The Easybeats, one of Australia's most successful bands of the 1960s. In 1966, they became the first local rock act to have an international hit, with the song "Friday on My Mind." But then the brothers got together, and BAM! AC/DC. They're great. I love them. Shook Me All Night Long.

Hey

So someone suggested to me to have a classical day. Well, I thought, "we're trying to appeal to everyone, right?" So here it goes. I'm not a genius when it comes to Classical, but I know I love this song. This is Canon in D by Pachelbel.

Leonard Cohen- Old Ideas Album Review

Hello peoples, I am deeply sorry about not getting any thing up in the past couple of days. But here is a review for you guys. You all know who Leonard Cohen is and for the people watching probably know that this album was coming out and also was one of my most anticipated of this year. I love Leonard and this album certainly didn't disappoint.  8.5/10

Queen

What's up?

Tonight, I just can't get Queen out of my head. And that's not a bad thing. So if you couldn't tell, my Random Squeeze of the Day is Queen. Queen a British rock band formed in London in 1971, originally consisting of Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon (bass guitar, guitars, vocals), and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals). Queen's earliest works were influenced by Progressive Rock, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works, incorporating more diverse and innovative styles in their music. John Deacon joined the band before recording their eponymous debut album (1973). Queen enjoyed success in the UK with their debut and its follow-up, Queen II (1974), but it was the release of Sheer Heart Attack (1974) and A Night at the Opera (1975) that gained the band international success. The latter featured "Bohemian Rhapsody", which stayed at number one in the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks; it charted at number one in several other territories, and gave the band their first top ten hit on the US Billboard Hot 100. Now all of this is very well and good, but here's the total truth about Queen. Freddie Mercury was an amazing vocalist. Brian May was awesome at guitar, and John Deacon and Roger Taylor were really good. They got along fairly well, and the thing that pulled the band apart was Mercury's death. Yes, Freddie Mercury was gay, and he died of AIDs but don't let that change you're view of Queen. Queen was amazing, and they worked very hard and were very successful. So I give you Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. A masterpiece.

Guns N' Roses

Hello fellow carbon based lifeforms,

Today, my daily squeeze is on Guns N' Roses. Guns N' Roses (sometimes abbreviated as G N' R) are an American hard rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1985. The classic lineup, as signed to Geffen Records in 1986, consisted of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradin , bassist Duff McKagen, and drummer Steven Adler. In case you're wondering, Slash's real name is Saul Hudson. Guns N' Roses are amazing. Sure, Axl Rose had the biggest ego ever, and was the reason the band broke up, but even so, he was an amazing vocalist, along with Slash, who is still one of my favorite guitarists. A year after its release, Guns N' Roses' debut album Appetite for Destruction (1987) reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, on the strength of the hit "Sweet Child o' Mine," their only single to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1990, Steven Adler was fired due to the fact that he could not perform well with his heroine and cocaine addiction. He was replaced by Matt Sorum, who Axl credited with saving the band. But in the end it all fell apart. The recording of "Sympathy for the Devil", as well as tension between him and Rose, led Slash to quit the band officially in October 1996. He was replaced by Nine Inch Nails touring guitarist Robin Finck in January 1997, who signed a two-year contract with the band in August 1997, making him an official member. Slash's departure was followed shortly thereafter by Matt Sorum, who was fired in April 1997 and then by bassist Duff McKagan, who resigned from the band in August 1997. As such, all of the members who had taken part in the recording of Appetite for Destruction (aside from Rose) had departed from the band. After this, Matt Sorum, Duff McKagen, Slash, alongside Dave Kushner, and  Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland created the band Velvet Revolver. Really it was just Guns N' Roses without Axl Rose, who still had the rights to the name. So finally, I give you a song that is not one of the extremely famous ones, but it is still one of my favorites. This is November Rain, by Gun's N' Roses.

Daily Squeeze 1/25/12

Hi Guys,

I haven't made an appearance for a while because I've been sick so sorry about not dropping the deadmau5 review last weekend as promised. I'm planning on doing a track by track review of it coming very soon so watch for that (it's a new reviewing style I have in mind that I want to test out).

I want to highlight a very talented producer/instrumentalist/singer named RJD2 for my Daily Squeeze today. RJD2 is one of my favorite producers of all time just because of his unique sound that is mainly hip hop, but also has influences of trip hop, jazz, lo-fi and electronica.

Enjoy this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfZxJV1ykHs and be sure to check out some of his other stuff, it's all really good!

The Sex Pistols

Hello all,

So first off I want to apologize if I offended any people who like or play rock/punk/alternative music. Do not be dismayed by my insensitivity. The world of rock/punk/alternative music needs new bands all the time. Add you're own style to the music though. Maybe you will be the band who (in my eyes) saves these genres. Okay now that I'm done with that,  I'm going to do my random squeeze on the Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols originally comprised vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock. Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977. The Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band that formed in London in 1975. They were responsible for initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and inspiring many later punk and alternative rock musicians. Although their initial career lasted just two-and-a-half years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Never mind the Bullocks, here's the Sex Pistols, they are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music. In 1996, Rotten, Jones, Cook and Matlock reunited for the Filthy Lucre Tour. Now the truth is, earlier in life, they had a lot more rage. They had no idea what they were saying. It just sounded good. But it really really sounded good. Anarchy in the UK is one of my favorite songs. But on their recent tours, now that they're all old and wise, they realize that what they are singing about is almost laughable. That's why I prefer to listen to their old stuff, the originals. That's just my opinion, I don't know about you. So without further ado, here is Anarchy in the UK by the Sex Pistols.

River's first post

Hello everyone!

So here's the deal, I'm the third guy in this blog to post something, and I'm sorry that this is the first time I've posted, I've just been busy. My kind of music is classic rock. I bleed classic rock. But I'm not just gunna post classic rock everyday. I'll post things that are more modern from time to time, but to be honest, I'm a little embarrassed by most of the rock/punk/alternative music today. That doesn't mean that there is not good stuff out there. So my Random Squeeze of the day is Led Zeppelin. They consisted of guitarist Jimmy page, singer Robert Plant, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. They are, in my opinion, a few of the best classic rockers of all time. Let's start with the song Rock and Roll.
I hope you enjoy
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF5gBT06FQ0

-River

P.S. I realized that I just said about thirty words about one of my favorite bands, so I'm just letting you know, I'll bring some bands back later on just to say more, or to show you a new song, cuz the problem with classic rock is that the closest to new songs coming out are re-released albums so I'll be coming back to some bands a lot.

Daily Squeeze: 1/22/12

Hello, people who have come to be looking at this post. First off I want to say I'm sorry for not getting anything up yesterday, that was completely my bad. For today's daily squeeze, I am spotlighting the band NO CEREMONY///. They are an electro soul/ experimental music group from Manchester, and that is really the most anybody knows about this band. I got into them last year when their first single "Hurtlove" was released. I have been on their tail ever since waiting for more music from these guys. In my opinion, they could become one of the next big things in indie music.

Listen to NO CEREMONY///'s latest single "DELIVERUS" here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQtNAnuQAQU.  (just a warning this latest single is very different from their others)

also check the mout on their website here : http://noceremony.com/

then check out my youtube channel (if of course, you came here from their, you should go there anyway)

Daily Squeeze: 1/20/12

Well, guys their is really only one person that deserves the daily squeeze today. Etta James is one of the most legendary and influential artists of all time, and very, very sadly she past away earlier today at the age of 73 of complications from leukemia. She was a winner of 6 grammy's and the true "Queen of Soul". The Random Squeeze would like to send their thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of Etta James. Etta, you will be dearly missed.

Listen to one of my favorite Etta James songs here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YApNirMC9gM

Also, please comment on this by telling the people of the Random Squeeze what are some of your favorite Etta James songs, quotes, really anything you would like to say in honor of Etta James.

R.I.P Etta James "The Queen of Soul"

What the Squeeze?: 1/20/12

Was up everybody? In this weeks 'What the Squeeze?' I am sorry I was not able to put up a video, but I'm sure I can do a perfectly good job without the video. In light of the past few weeks of most anticipated lists, me included. I know that this is late for an anticipation list of any kind really. But, this has been on my mind. Since my most anticipated video last week, when I totally forgot to add this to the video. My question finally is what are your least anticipated albums of 2012. It is a question that no one seems to ask. What album do you think will crush (in a bad way) the music industry this year. What album do you dearly for the love of god not to come out. So that is this weeks unorthodox question. Peaces.

Daily Squeeze 1/19/12

WOAH new font!!

Hey guys, hope you like the less cluttered new font. Hopefully it's not too boring either. Before I do the Daily Squeeze I just wanted to say that I will be reviewing deadmau5 at play volumes 1 and 2 over the weekend so look forward to that. As far as the Squeeze goes, I really don't have much to say because I have a pretty substantial headache. Basically, due to the headache, I've been listening to a lot of jazz. Give the (Grammy Award Winning) album Moody 4B a listen if you want to hear some straight up jazz.

New song from Daniel Rossen's solo debut EP "Silent Hour/ Golden Mile"!

Hello everybody, I am very excited to tell you guys of a new song from Daniel Rossen. Daniel is most well know for his work with Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles. This video is basically the new promo for his solo debut "Silent Hour/Golden Mile". I'm really digging the really personal feel to this song and I am excited to see what the rest of this EP holds. Unfortunately, Daniel nor anybody else from Grizzly Bear have mentioned working on new material. For now we can learn to enjoy/love this.

Daily Squeeze 1/16/12

Hey Everyone!

In honor of MLK Jr. Day, today's Daily Squeeze is going to feature one of Evan and I's favorite bands, BBNG (BADBADNOTGOOD). They are a trio that mix two African American created genres (hip-hop and jazz) into a unique sound that can only be described as "SWAGGGG!" If you haven't heard of them before I highly recommend giving them a listen. You can download their free album at  http://badbadnotgood.com/.

Daily Squeeze: 1/15/12

Hey everyone, I'm here coming to you guys with todays Daily Squeeze. Todays Daily Squeeze is a Utah local band Eyes Lips Eyes. I saw these guys live at a new years eve 2010 party. They're what I would qualify as a funk rock band. Make sure also to try and find some of their stuff under the name of Elizabethan Report (they changed it from that to Eyes Lips Eyes, if you didn't get that already). check them out at their website: http://www.eyeslipseyes.com/ and listen to one of my favorite tracks of thier Blue/Red album here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puvJ8qsNiDo

Alexander Spit - These Long Strange Nights Review

Hi Guys! Carl here reviewing a new mixtape that just dropped.

San Francisco born rapper Alexander Spit's new mixtape (~45 min.) is filled with smooth, clever rhymes that glide effortlessly over silky, suggestive, jazzy, dark, complex beats. A lot of these songs made my ears feel like they were having an expensive spa treatment. I really, really enjoyed the first three tracks for this reason. They really had a unique, unusual sound unlike anything I had ever heard. However tracks 4 and 5 were a disappointing mess. They were very cluttered sounding and reminded me of a two year old banging on pots and pans pretending to be a drummer. Luckily, the album made a quick turnaround with the track Six Days Remix, which had a very eerie sample that reminded me of 1970's psychedelic rock mixed with Beach Boys, blended together seamlessly to resemble something you would hear on an album like Plastic Beach. After that track, it was just one song after another of one of the best hip-hop mixtapes I have ever listened to . I do however wish that Spit had used the phenomenal beat at the beginning of Shawn Kemp throughout the whole track. All that aside, this is truly a magical mixtape. I would try to pick out my favorite tracks but I'm too impressed with the mixtape as a whole to even try. Just go listen to the whole damn thing. This mixtape gives me hope that there's still real hip-hop out there. It tells me that change IS good.

Cloud Nothings- Attack On Memory Album Review

Cloud Nothings review, in my opinion it's nothing that special, well, you can just watch the review and take a look at this wonderfully, purposely fuzzy album art to go along with the new sound.

The Act of Estimating as Worthless Album Review

To start out the band i'm reviewing today is a folk band from New York, with a band name that's as beautiful as the music sounds. The Act of Estimating as Worthless has just released there debut album, Amongst These Splintered Minds/ Leaden Thoughts Sing Softly. This album is just under the 40 minute mark and for those nearly 40 minutes I am happy to say that I was sucked into the world of this album. This is a folk album that takes great success in using simple vocals and instrumentals. My favorite part of this album for me was the instrumentals. The guitars set the mood for each of these love inspired songs and the Neutral Milk Hotel sounding trumpets and the beautiful violins pulled everything together as far as the sound of this album. When I first dove into this album the one thing that bothered me was the Moldy Peaches style vocals. After a few more listens through the album the sometimes off pitch harmony grew to be just yet another thing I liked about this album. Through the voices of Zoe Grant and Matthew Van Asselt come out beautiful love lyrics that in some points on this LP can get quite creepy. I would recommend this to most everybody, especially if you're in love with such bands as The Moldy Peaches, Neutral Milk Hotel or The Microphones. I'm really excited that something this good could come out this early this year and I'm excited for whatever this band decides to do next. I'm going to give this a 9/10 as the first Freshly Squeezed music (that will be the Random Squeeze's favorites) of this year and ever.

check their bandcamp to see if you liked it as much as I did: http://theactofestimatingasworthless.bandcamp.com/
